Recycling the Remnants

If everyone's Christmas was as hectic as mine was it's not easy to stop and think about recycling with the huge mound of boxes and gift wrap piled up everywhere. All I wanted to do was clear a path to the kitchen so we could finish Christmas dinner. I gathered all the shredded Christmas paper with the help of my mom and I will be taking it to the recycling trailer at the high school on Thursday along with any cardboard boxes that I was able to hang on to. I also have a ton of cans and glass that need to be recycled so those will be taken too. Looks like it's going to be a busy week.

How to Shop Green For Christmas

This comes a little late because most are probably close to done with their shopping. Green Guide offers these tips in their December issue:
Be thoughtful about your purchases and pick items built to last. Even greener options don't make good gifts if they end up in an attic or landfill after the holidays.
Pick products made from recycled or renewable materials.
Look for fairly traded imports, such as jewelry, housewares and handicrafts.
When in doubt, buy food. Organic, Fair Trade Certified and locally grown foods and gifts baskets are a safe bet and usually don't go to waste.

The Giving Trees

The Giving Trees
In Jefferson Parish Louisiana they collect old Christmas trees (live ones of course) and they use them to help stop coastal erosion. Last year they collected 35,000 trees. In
the 17 years they've been doing this they have collected
over 650,000 trees. Wonder if we could use recycled Christmas
trees in Livingston County for some ecological good?
